The value of certification

Certification is a term that is thrown around a lot, but do you really know what it tells you about a company and why it is such an important factor to consider during any supply partner evaluation?

Certification is a process that a company is put through to prove it meets the requirements of a standard. ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) is an independent, non-governmental organisation (representing the National Standard Institutes of over 150 countries) that develops standards to ensure the quality, safety and efficiency of products, services, and systems. ISO requires a business to set clear objectives, standardise processes and explain them to employees.

For a business, there are many benefits to certification. Improved efficiency, increased productivity, improved customer satisfaction and the ability to identify opportunities for improvement – benefits that typically deliver a competitive advantage to support growth and expand the opportunity to participate in tenders.

For customers, supplier certification delivers peace of mind for improved service and quality, increased reliability, and improved security. In fact, for many companies in high security industries such as defence, aged care or health, certification is not just expected – it is mandated. Being able to demonstrate a formal commitment to quality is often a pre-requisite for formal tendering procedures for public sector contracts or ASX 200 companies who operate to the highest of standards and who depend on their network to operate.

As experts in network infrastructure for companies across Australia and the Asia Pacific, we have a strong imperative to offer a highly skilled and highly trained team of qualified technicians who understand the importance of rigorous process and security protocols. For Alliance SI, certification is another way to demonstrate our commitment to process – a commitment that is inherent in our company values and our business approach.

Our process underpins everything we do. ISO certification was a natural step in our company development. Now we’re looking to the future and undertaking the Defence Industry Security Protocol (DISP). DISP membership will give us the necessary security clearance to support network infrastructure projects for the Defence department.

ISO Certification
During 2021, Alliance SI was officially certified to International Standards Organisation (ISO) 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (environmental) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety). The certification was awarded for the planning, implementation and management of telecommunications and electrical projects.

ISO certification recognises our company’s integrated management system (IMS) – a series of robust management systems and defined procedures in all business areas which enables us to perform to a consistent standard and maintain a high level of quality and safety standards in everything we do.

Quality has always been at the heart of our business, and we continuously challenge ourselves to improve our services to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of our customers, while complying with regulations and safety requirements. ISO certification does not recognise a moment in time, but instead recognises our ongoing adherence to process and a commitment to continuous improvement that allows our service to evolve in line with the needs of our customers, to ensure we can deliver exceptional results again and again.

Defence Industry Security Program (DISP)
The DISP, managed by the Defence Industry Security Office, supports Australian businesses to understand and meet their security obligations when engaging in Defence projects, contracts and tenders. The program is intended to address and protect the Defence supply chain from security vulnerabilities by assessing business’s processes, procedures, information technology and cyber security, physical security, and personnel security.

It is essentially security vetting for Australian businesses, providing confidence and assurance to Defence and other government entities (either Australian or foreign) when procuring goods and services from industry members. With this rigorous program well underway, Alliance SI will be excited to announce our DISP membership later this year – yet another assurance for our customers.

A commitment to continuous improvement
Our commitment to process is evident in our ISO accreditation, underpinned by our genuine culture of continuous improvement. We seek feedback; we evaluate and measure results; and we constantly look for ways to enhance our service offering and improve our processes. It is how we grow with our clients and how we build the most dependable network infrastructure without compromise to quality or security.
